Hope Shorts

Indy film producer Ted Hope has a blog on what he calls "curating for the hep set, age six and up."

Although not a woman, he has "pinned" a list of Great Short Films.

Most titles link to a video stream. Its a mix of classics (La Jetee, Frank Film), may-be classics (Guy Maddin's The Heart of the World), and more recent independent works (The Voyagers, 2010, by Penny Lane; Space Balloon, 2011, by Luke Geissbuhler). I find most "web portals" clunky when it comes to putting movies into a screen format that is pleasant to watch (much less to listen to). This one is not different. But the impulse is a good curatorial one.

Incidentally, last year the Department of Cinema Studies was surprised to hear that Ted Hope (he's an NYU Tisch alum) and others were launching the NYU Cinema Research Institute, "a community of filmmakers, scholars, and entrepreneurs who are committed to exploring new models of financing, producing, marketing, and distributing media and entertainment." I wonder what is going on behind the scenes there? On the website's link to RESEARCH, it promises "White papers, journals and models from our fellows."  Seven people have been named as CRI Fellows, the best known of which is probably Josh Penn, a producer on Beasts of the Southern Wild.
